| Obverse description | A bold letter cross divides the field into four quarters, each canton decorated with small pellets or ornamental devices. The letters A-D and L-B are distributed across the quarters, forming the abbreviated name of Archbishop Adalbert in a manner typical of early medieval German ecclesiastical pfennigs. A crescent or lunate symbol appears at the center of the cross. The overall design is executed in a primitive but vigorous hammered style characteristic of early 11th-century Salzburg coinage. |
