Additional information

Raphael Adorno's dogeship was the third held by a member of that faction-ridden family, and it ended as violently as the city's politics demanded — he was deposed in 1447 after persistent conflict between the Adorno and Fregoso factions that had consumed Genoese internal governance for decades. The sesino was the workhorse denomination of Ligurian small commerce, and billon issues from contested dogeships frequently circulated well past the reign that produced them, making attribution to a specific doge dependent almost entirely on the die legend rather than wear patterns.
