Obverse description The city gate of Genoa (castello) depicted in facing view within a beaded inner circle, showing a two-towered fortified gateway with a portcullis visible beneath the arch. The architectural rendering is characteristic of Genoese hammered billon coinage of the mid-fifteenth century. A circular legend in uncial Latin surrounds the central device, separated from the gate motif by the beaded border. Floral rosette stops punctuate the legend throughout.
Obverse script Latin (uncial)

Reverse description A cross pattée centered within a beaded inner circle, with arms of equal length splaying toward the border, occupying the four quadrants of the field. A circular legend in uncial Latin runs around the periphery, with floral rosette stops separating the words. A mint official's initial appears at the conclusion of the legend, serving as a control mark to identify the responsible official; known examples bear either the initial A or O.
