| Obverse description | Facing right, the bare head of the nymph Arethusa rendered in archaic-transitional style, her hair elaborately dressed and bound with a beaded tainia, with loose curling locks descending behind the neck. A beaded necklace is visible at the truncation. The portrait occupies most of the field of this diminutive flan, the modelling of the facial features reflecting the finest engraving tradition of early Syracusan coinage. |
