| Obverse description | Bare laureate head of youthful Ares facing left, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with flowing locks of hair falling behind the neck. The facial features are youthful and idealized, with a strong profile characteristic of late Sicilian Greek coinage. Behind the head, a Phrygian helmet is visible in the right field, serving as an iconographic attribute identifying the deity. The flan shows characteristic irregular casting of the period, with a well-centred strike preserving considerable detail in the hair and facial relief. |
