背面描述	The reverse is dominated by a plain cross pattée at the centre of a beaded inner circle, with four pellets placed in each angle of the cross, a motif directly evoking ecclesiastical authority. Surrounding the inner circle is a broad outer legend reading + EB◊R·A·CE CIV, an abbreviated form of Eboracum Civitas, the Latin name for the city of York, separated by lozenge and pellet stops. The inter-legend zone between the inner beaded circle and the outer border is filled with a series of stylised Viking-influenced ornamental devices including crescents, pellets, and small crosses disposed around the circumference. The entire design is contained within a beaded outer border on an irregular hammered flan. The composition reflects the hybrid Anglo-Scandinavian artistic tradition of the Viking Kingdom of York in the early tenth century.
