| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents a small equal-armed cross at the centre of the field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. Surrounding this inner circle is a continuous peripheral legend reading +IDRAICE CIVI, identifying York as the city of issue. The lettering is rendered in angular Insular majuscule characters and arranged around the inner circle in a manner characteristic of Viking Northumbrian penny coinage of the late ninth century. The beaded border of the inner circle provides a clear visual boundary between the central cross device and the surrounding legend. The flan edges are irregular, as expected of hand-struck hammered silver coinage of this era. |
