Ludica's reign lasted less than two years before he was killed fighting the East Angles at the Battle of Ellandun's aftermath — a campaign that effectively ended Mercian dominance over the southern English kingdoms. Coins struck in his name are accordingly rare, and most known specimens derive from single-find or hoard contexts rather than sustained circulation.
