Additional information

Trial pieces for the British West Africa series were produced at the King's Norton Metal Company in Birmingham, which held the contract for these colonial issues in the early 1920s. This reverse trial exists to test die alignment, metal flow, and surface quality before full production runs were authorized — making it a working document in metal rather than a collectible in the conventional sense. King's Norton was absorbed into ICI in 1962, and much of its trial piece documentation was lost.
