Eadwig's reign lasted just four years before his nobles effectively partitioned England, with Mercia and Northumbria transferring allegiance to his younger brother Edgar in 957. The three-line type belongs to this compressed window — a coinage issued by a king who controlled less of his kingdom with each passing year. His moneyers continued striking, but the political ground was already shifting beneath them.
