Reverse description The reverse displays a central rosette or cluster of pellets arranged in a tight circular grouping within a plain inner circle, the defining design element that gives this issue its 'Rosette' type designation. A beaded inner border frames the central device, and the moneyer's legend +ÆLFSIGE MONE is inscribed in Anglo-Saxon majuscule Latin characters around the periphery between two beaded borders, commencing with a cross pattée. The workmanship is consistent with the output of a provincial Anglo-Saxon mint operating under the reformed coinage of Edgar's reign.
