| Obverse description | Facing bust of Bishop Rudolph of Zähringen rendered in a stylized Romanesque manner, depicted wearing a mitre or episcopal headdress with decorative elements above. The face is rendered frontally with large eyes and simplified linear features characteristic of 12th-century minting art. Foliate or scroll motifs appear to either side of the bust in the field.
