| Obverse description | Frontal bust of a bishop in high relief, wearing a mitre and episcopal vestments, rendered in the crude but characterful Romanesque style typical of late 12th-century Mosan coinage. The face is schematically rendered with linear features, and the mitre is prominently depicted rising above the head. The abbreviated legend ALB E PS (Albertus Episcopus) is distributed around the figure in the field, identifying the issuer as Bishop Albert de Cuyck. The flan is irregular and slightly concave, as is characteristic of hammered medieval deniers. |

Albert de Cuyck served as Prince-Bishop of Liège from 1195 to 1200, a tenure cut short by his death rather than political removal — rare for a see that saw frequent episcopal turbulence in this period. Huy, as one of the principal minting towns within the Prince-Bishopric, operated with considerable autonomy, and deniers struck there sometimes diverge subtly in die work from those attributed to Liège proper. Dengis 397 is among the scarcer attributions in the Albert de Cuyck sequence.
