| Beschrijving keerzijde | A bold voided long cross divides the reverse into four quarters, with a standing eagle or bird figure depicted in each quarter facing inward toward the cross, a design closely associated with the Awbridge/Watford type coinage of the Stephen period. Fleur-de-lis or trefoil ornaments appear at the junctions of the cross arms, lending a decorative quality to the layout. The execution is typical of provincial die-cutting during the Anarchy, with the birds rendered in a somewhat schematic but vigorous manner. The moneyer's legend WHICHELI[NVS D]ERBI runs around the outer field in Latin letters, identifying the moneyer Walkelin operating at the Derby mint. |
