| Popis rubu | A bold thick cross pattée dominates the reverse field, with a cluster of pellets at the centre and at each terminal of the cross arms, forming the distinctive 'cross pattée with pellets' type associated with Stephen's Civil War coinage. A lis ornament is placed in each of the four angles between the cross arms, adding decorative articulation to the composition. The design is executed in high relief with the characteristically uneven strike of a provincially produced hammered flan. The moneyer legend is disposed around the periphery, reading AILRICVS + ON LIN, identifying the moneyer Ælric operating at the Lincoln mint. The flan edges are ragged and irregular, consistent with hand-cut blanks of the Anarchy period. |
