| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse bears the moneyer's name and the word MONETA arranged in three horizontal lines across the field, divided by two horizontal bars, a layout typical of the Group I portrait pennies struck at Canterbury under Ceolwulf I. The inscription names the moneyer Oba and identifies the piece as official currency. The design is contained within a plain inner border, itself surrounded by a beaded outer border. The bold, angular lettering is characteristic of the Canterbury scriptorium style of the early Anglo-Saxon period. |
