Obverse description Within a plain inner circle, a raised triquetra (three-arc interlaced knot) occupies the central field, rendered in dotted relief with the characteristic Norse interlace style. The ruler's name legend surrounds the inner circle in the outer field, composed of Anglo-Saxon letterforms interspersed with pellet stops. The coin exhibits the irregular flan and shallow relief typical of Viking-Age hammered silver pennies struck at York.
