The royal legend is disposed in two lines around the inner circle, reading outward into the broad outer field, executed in the angular Anglo-Saxon majuscule script characteristic of Phase I coinage. The flan is irregular and partially chipped, typical of hammered pennies of the period. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | A bold Carolingian-style monogram of DOROBERNIA (Rochester) occupies the central field within a plain inner circle, surrounded by the lengthy royal title legend disposed around the periphery in angular Anglo-Saxon majuscule. The monogram is composed of interlocking letters, characteristic of the Canterbury-Rochester die-cutting tradition of the mid-ninth century. The flan is broken and irregular, with portions of the legend lost at the fracture. |
