Reverse description The moneyer's name is displayed across three horizontal lines of text within the field, divided by decorative elements including a central pellet and cross. The inscription reads the name of the moneyer Monne, arranged in the three-line format typical of this Mercian penny type. Pellets and small ornamental devices fill the interstices between the lines. The lettering is bold and angular, consistent with the hammered coinage style of the reign of Æthelstan I of Mercia.
