Obverse description Right-facing crowned and draped bust of King Æthelstan within a beaded inner circle, the crown depicted with prominent prongs or tines rendered in the Anglo-Saxon style. The effigy is executed in a bold, stylised manner characteristic of early medieval English hammered coinage. A Latin legend circles the bust between the inner beaded circle and the outer beaded border of the flan.
