| Reverse description | A bold short cross pattée occupies the center of the field, its splayed terminals nearly reaching the inner beaded border. Symbols are placed in each of the four angles formed by the cross arms, including a star and other devices. The surrounding legend is inscribed between the inner beaded circle and the outer beaded border. The die work is characteristic of hammered episcopal deniers of the Bishopric of Utrecht during the sede vacante period, with irregular flan edges and uneven strike. |

The sede vacante designation places this piece in the interregnum following the death of Bishop Otto II of Utrecht in 1227, during which the chapter governed the bishopric pending a new appointment. Episcopal minting rights in the Low Countries were fiercely guarded, and the chapter's decision to continue striking in their own authority — rather than suspend production — reflects the commercial pressure of Deventer's growing role as a Hanseatic trading center on the IJssel.
