Erik Menved inherited the Danish throne at age seven following the murder of his father Erik Klipping in 1286 — a regicide that dominated the political tensions of his entire reign. The nobility implicated in the killing spent years in exile, and the crown's ongoing conflict with the Church and magnate class strained royal finances severely. Roskilde, as the episcopal center of Denmark, remained a key minting site throughout this turbulence, though output was irregular and quality varied as the silver content of billon issues quietly deteriorated across the reign.
