| Obverse description | Central pellet enclosed within a stylized crown rendered in low relief, the whole device set within a beaded inner circle. The crude, hammered fabric of the flan imparts an irregular outline to the field. The design is characteristic of the episcopal mint coinage of Roskilde, reflecting the simplified heraldic vocabulary common to late 13th- and early 14th-century Danish bracteate-influenced pennings. Erik Menved inherited the Danish throne at age seven following the murder of his father Erik Klipping in 1286 — a regicide that dominated the political tensions of his entire reign. The nobility implicated in the killing spent years in exile, and the crown's ongoing conflict with the Church and magnate class strained royal finances severely. Roskilde, as the episcopal center of Denmark, remained a key minting site throughout this turbulence, though output was irregular and quality varied as the silver content of billon issues quietly deteriorated across the reign.
