| Beschrijving keerzijde | A bold short cross pattee centered in the field, with a large pellet positioned in each of the four angles formed by the arms of the cross, creating a quatrefoil arrangement around the central device. The cross and pellets are contained within a beaded inner circle, around which the circular legend BERNOLDVS EPS runs, naming Bishop Bernold as the issuing authority. The die work is firm and relatively clear, consistent with the Deventer mint output under Bernold's episcopate. The reverse type follows the widely used Ottonian cross-and-pellet formula common to Rhenish episcopal coinage of the early to mid-eleventh century. |
