Aanvullende informatie

Pattern coinage under Maria I occupied an awkward institutional moment: the queen had been declared mentally incapacitated in 1799, with her son João acting as Prince Regent, yet dies were still being prepared in her name as the machinery of the Lisbon mint worked through the administrative transition. This copper peça pattern was never approved for circulation, and surviving examples almost certainly remained within the mint itself.

The KM#Pn27 attribution places it among a cluster of experimental strikes from this period, most of which exist in single-digit quantities.
