| 背面描述 | The Arms of the Australian Capital Territory are displayed prominently in the centre of the field, featuring a shield charged with a key and sword in saltire surmounted by a St Edward's Crown, a castle, and a Tudor rose, all ensigned by a mural crown and chain. Two black swans, serving as supporters, flank the shield, each facing inward and standing upon a grassy compartment. Beneath the shield, a scroll cartouche bears the territory motto in raised Latin lettering. The design fills the dodecagonal field without a peripheral legend. |

The 1988 pattern was struck by the Royal Australian Mint as part of internal trials exploring a redesigned 50-cent piece to coincide with Australia's bicentenary celebrations. The existing dodecagonal format was never seriously threatened — the change went nowhere — but the exercise produced a small number of trial pieces that escaped into collector hands through the secondary market rather than any official release program.
