Patagon - Albert and Isabella

The Patagon was introduced across the Spanish Netherlands by a 1612 edict of the Archdukes Albert and Isabella, intended to create a unified heavy silver trade coin competitive with the German Reichstaler circulating throughout the same markets. Luxembourg's output was modest relative to Antwerp or Brabant, making issues from this mint considerably harder to locate today. Albert died in 1613 — before this specific date range — meaning coins struck 1616–1619 were issued under Isabella's regency alone, though the joint portrait and titulature were retained by convention until her death in 1633.
