| Additional information |
Louis I of Savoy issued this billon patac during a period when the duchy was threading carefully between French and Burgundian spheres of influence — a balancing act that defined much of his 46-year reign. The patac itself was a workhorse denomination, struck in billon precisely because the duchy's silver reserves were under persistent strain from military obligations and the costs of maintaining a court that punched well above its political weight.
The Type II distinction from Biaggi separates this from earlier emissions by die characteristics catalogued across the CS references at numbers 173 and 176 — two subtly divergent die marriages within the same emission.
