Sigismund of Luxembourg came to the Hungarian throne through his marriage to Mary of Anjou, but his early reign was anything but secure — he was briefly captured and imprisoned by rebellious barons in 1401. The parvus denomination he issued was among the smallest silver coins in contemporary European circulation, struck in such quantities that individual dies wore rapidly, producing the considerable variation in sharpness collectors encounter across surviving examples.
