Parpagliola or Cavalotto - Vincenzo I of Mantua

Vincenzo I Gonzaga ruled Montferrat as a fief held under Imperial investiture while simultaneously holding Mantua, a jurisdictional arrangement that required separate coinage for each territory. The cavalotto denomination was a northern Italian billon staple, used extensively in markets across the Po plain where Spanish, Savoyard, and Gonzaga monetary interests constantly competed and occasionally collided.

Vincenzo's reign of over three decades produced considerable variety in die workmanship across the Casale mint, and MIR 307 encompasses multiple die combinations under a single reference number.
