The entire composition is enclosed within a quadrilobe border formed by four lobed arcs. The surrounding legend in Gothic uncial letters reads MARCHIO IN ITALIA PRINCEPS, proclaiming Charles I as Marquis in Italy and Prince. The flan edges are irregular and slightly ragged, characteristic of the hammered technique of late fifteenth-century Savoyard coinage. |
