| Obverse description | Draped bust of Queen Maria II of Portugal facing left, her hair elaborately dressed and secured with a pearl-studded coronet. The portrait is rendered in fine relief with careful attention to the queen's facial features and coiffure. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, with the date inscribed in the lower portion of the field below the bust truncation.
