Obverse description Draped bust of Queen Maria I facing right, wearing an elaborate headdress, within a beaded inner circle. The legend GOA appears to the left of the effigy and PARDAO to the right, with the date inscribed in the lower field below the bust. The portrait is rendered in the crude, bold style characteristic of hammered colonial coinage struck at the Goa mint.

Obverse lettering GOA PARDAO 1799
Reverse description The Portuguese royal arms — a shield bearing five bezants arranged in a cross (the quinas) — displayed at centre, surmounted by a royal crown. The shield is flanked by elaborate scrollwork and surrounded by small five-pointed stars dispersed across the field, all within a beaded border. The design reflects the standard armorial type employed on Portuguese colonial silver issues of the late eighteenth century.
