| 表面の説明 | The Farnese dynastic shield occupies the central field, quartered with fleurs-de-lis and surmounted by a ducal crown of elaborate form, all set within a decorative scrolled cartouche. The arms are rendered in high relief in a refined Renaissance heraldic style characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century Italian coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the composition, reading clockwise and divided by stops. The coin's inner border features a rope or cable pattern, separating the legend from the outer rim. The overall design reflects the ambitions of Pier Luigi Farnese as the first Duke of Castro, combining Farnese heraldry with ducal insignia. |

Pier Luigi Farnese received the Duchy of Castro from his father Pope Paul III in 1537, a grant that was itself a calculated act of nepotism that scandalized the College of Cardinals. His brief rule over the duchy — and his parallel tenure as the first Duke of Parma and Piacenza from 1545 — ended when Imperial-backed conspirators stabbed him to death in Piacenza in September 1547, leaving this coinage confined to a window of barely two years.
