Pal's Sudden Service is a regional fast-food chain operating exclusively in the Tri-Cities area of northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia — never franchised, never expanded beyond its tight geographic footprint, and famously the first food-service company inducted into the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award program, back in 2001. The "Pal's Dollar" is a promotional scrip issued for internal loyalty or gift purposes, redeemable at Pal's locations rather than functioning as any form of legal tender.
Kingsport, Tennessee is both the chain's home base and the effective locus of these notes' entire useful life — they were never meant to travel far.
