The ort — worth one-quarter of a thaler — was introduced to Polish coinage under Zygmunt III as a practical denomination for Baltic trade, and Władysław IV continued striking them at Bydgoszcz throughout the 1630s largely to finance ongoing military commitments along the northern frontier. The Bydgoszcz mint was one of the more active crown mints of this period, though its output quality was inconsistent year to year.
Kop. 1458 places this among the documented varieties for the 1635 issue. Die alignment and punch work at Bydgoszcz during this run varied noticeably between obverse dies, making variety attribution rewarding for specialists working this series.
