Obverse description Mercury, winged and semi-draped, reclines dynamically on billowing clouds in high relief, his left hand holding a caduceus downward toward the scene below and his right arm extended outward. In the lower field, a steam locomotive emerges from a tunnel arch cut into a rocky mountain, with a coat of arms in an oval laurel-wreathed shield to the left and a radiant oval shield to the right. The engraver's signature E. JACOT appears in the lower exergue.
