Reverse description Central field bears the crowned shield of Gelderland displaying the rampant lion, set within a decorative surround supported by two rampant lions as supporters, one to each side of the shield. A beaded inner border frames the design, outside of which runs the circular Latin motto legend. The hammered strike has resulted in an irregular flan with areas of weak relief, typical of small-denomination billon oorden struck in the Spanish Netherlands during the late sixteenth century. The overall composition reflects the provincial heraldic style of the Duchy of Gelderland.
