Obverse description Central field dominated by the tughra (imperial monogram) of Sultan Osman II, rendered in the characteristic interlocking Arabic calligraphic style enclosed within a circular border. The tughra is boldly struck in high relief against a flat field, with the characteristic loop and upward strokes of the Ottoman imperial cipher clearly visible. Surrounding the central device, the Arabic legend names the sultan and his father and records the mint and date of striking. The flan is irregularly shaped, as typical of hammered coinage of the period, with visible flatness at the margins due to the hand-striking technique.
