Fantasy notes branded with the Titanic theme emerged as a cottage industry from the 1990s onward, sold as novelty collectibles and occasionally — misleadingly — marketed as "limited edition" pieces to buyers unfamiliar with the distinction between genuine currency and printed memorabilia.
