The 2017 series designation on Federal Reserve Notes reflects the signature combination of Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Treasurer Jovita Carranza — though "2017" indicates the series year, not the print date. These notes were not actually produced until 2018 at the earliest, sometimes years later, depending on the Federal Reserve Bank district.

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing produces the one-dollar denomination in far higher volumes than any other U.S. note, and the one-dollar bill accounts for roughly 45% of all currency printed annually. It costs the BEP approximately 5.5 cents to produce each one.
