Obverse description High-relief bust of Edmund Halley facing slightly left, depicted in period dress with a large curled wig. The name EDMUND HALLEY and birth and death years 1656 and 1742 appear in the field flanking the effigy. A circular legend runs around the border, and a lower legend reads HALLEY BESIEGTE DIE KOMETENFURCHT. The engraver's signature E. Torff appears in the lower left field.

Reverse description The lower portion of the reverse depicts a detailed view of the Treptow Observatory building with its large refractor telescope visible. Above, a detailed star map fills the central field, showing the trajectory of Halley's Comet among labeled constellations including Orion, Taurus, Castor, Pollux, Sirius and others, with the comet's path marked by numbered positions. The surrounding border legend lists historical apparition dates of the comet ranging from 240 BC to 1910 AD.
