背面描述 The king, depicted as a mounted warrior, gallops to the left on a prancing horse, his chlamys billowing dramatically behind him as he couches a long lance horizontally to the left. A round shield is visible at his side. The two-line Greek legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ above and ΣΕΛΕΥΚΟΥ below flanks the central equestrian figure, with a control monogram positioned in the lower field beneath the horse.

附加信息

Seleukos II inherited a fractured empire. His reign opened with the Third Syrian War against Ptolemy III, who pushed Seleucid forces back so far that ancient sources record him briefly occupying Antioch itself. The subsequent recovery gave Seleukos his epithet Kallinikos — "Beautifully Victorious" — though the label was largely propaganda: he never fully reconsolidated Seleucid power in the east, and the secession of Bactria and Parthia as independent kingdoms dates to precisely this reign.

SC1 distinguishes two die varieties under 709a and 709b, suggesting continuous production across multiple minting episodes during what was an administratively turbulent period.
