正面描述 Bare head of the nymph Chalkis facing right, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with elaborately waved and braided hair swept back from the temples and falling in loose, undulating locks along the neck. A spherical pendant earring is visible at the ear. The portrait is set within a plain inner border and an outer dotted border, occupying the full breadth of the flan with confident, high-relief engraving.

附加信息

Chalkis was one of the few Euboian cities to maintain an active mint into the second century BC, a period when most Greek civic coinages were being squeezed out by the expanding reach of Macedonian and later Roman monetary influence. The octobol denomination — eight obols, or two-thirds of a drachm — is an unusual unit that appears sporadically in Euboian issues and reflects a local accounting tradition rather than any pan-Hellenic standard. The magistrate name Xenocrates places this piece within a specific administrative sequence documented by Picard's die study, narrowing its production window within the broader 180–146 BC range.
