Additional information

Teobaldo II ruled Navarre as a vassal of the French crown, his reign shaped almost entirely by his participation in the Eighth Crusade of 1270 — the same ill-fated campaign on which both he and Louis IX of France died, Teobaldo at Trapani in Sicily on his return voyage. His coinage is scarce precisely because his reign was short and his kingdom small, a landlocked Pyrenean state with limited minting output even in stable years.
