| Obverse description | Central plain cross with expanding arms, dividing the field into four quarters, each containing a pellet or annulet. The cross is enclosed within a plain inner circle bordered by a beaded inner ring. The circular Latin legend LODOICVS, invoking the Carolingian royal name Louis, runs along the outer field. The coin is struck on an irregular flan typical of 12th-century feudal hammered silver. |
