Obverse description Central field bearing the monogram ChE (for Comes Hugonis), flanked by two opposing crescents arranged symmetrically at left and right. The monogram is rendered in relief within a plain inner circle. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, separated from the field by a beaded or plain border. The overall style is characteristic of feudal hammered coinage of the mid-thirteenth century.
