Reverse description Central field displays a stylized castle or tower motif enclosed within a beaded inner circle, the structure rendered schematically with crenellations visible above a broad base, consistent with the châtel-tournois type derived from French royal coinage. The beaded inner circle is itself surrounded by the peripheral legend THEBE CIVIS, denoting the city of Thebes as the place of issue. The outer edge of the flan is irregular, as expected for a hammered obol of this period, with partial legend visible. The design is characteristic of Frankish Athenian coinage struck at the Theban mint during the rule of the de la Roche dynasty.
