Obverse description Frontal bust of Archbishop William I in pontifical vestments, wearing a mitre, set within the central field of this small hammered billon obol. The figure appears mitred and enthroned or standing in a schematic, Romanesque style typical of 12th-century ecclesiastical coinage. The surrounding Latin legend, partially visible on the irregular flan, reads GVLE RMVS + ARCHIEPISCOPVS, identifying the issuer as William Archbishop. An inner beaded or linear border separates the central effigy from the circumferential legend.
