Obverse description Central field displays a fleur-de-lis in high relief, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The fleur-de-lis, a royal emblem of the French crown, is rendered in the Gothic style characteristic of Louis XI's coinage. A circular legend surrounds the inner beaded border, reading in Latin. The overall fabric is irregular, consistent with hand-hammered medieval billon coinage.
